RAF CHILTERN ANGLING LEAGUE CHAIRMANS REPORT 2007

Picking up the reigns of the League half way through a season, I find that I have inherited a thriving match scene; with attendances now on the increase and the standard and participation at it’s highest for some years. Despite a turbulent period with several posts changing hands, the League has continued to thrive; this is testament to the excellent work done by my predecessor and his Committee. I convey my personal thanks for providing me with the best possible opportunity for a successful tenure as League Chairman.

A total of 53 anglers, consisting of 46 Service and 7 Civilian have participated in League events this year and have all enjoyed some excellent sport. The highlight of which was an amazing 141 lb 2oz winning weight at CAL 2, Alders Farm by Cpl Steve Perham; this we believe to be a new CAL 5 hour match record.

Congratulations go to RAF Odiham ‘A’ in the team event and Cpl Steve Perham who took the Individual honours by 2 pts from Mr Steve Bettis. All events were hard fought and very closely contested; the individual League went right down to the wire with only 10 pts covering the top 7 anglers, which is extremely encouraging for the future. In the Team event, Odiham ‘A’ recorded a very impressive 5 Wins and 3 Seconds from their 8 scoring matches to win by 4 pts from High Wycombe ‘A’ in Second place.

The CAL League continues to progress with a full programme of matches throughout the year, these are extremely well run and are always highly competitive. Sustained by the hard core of regulars, and boosted by the arrival of some new faces and the introduction of a few pleasure anglers to match fishing, attendances have continued at an average of around 24 anglers per match. Encouraged by the flow of knowledge and ideas, this has enabled all to be fully competitive and is ultimately raising standards throughout the League.

The organisation, administration and funding of the League remains sound, which is almost entirely due to the efforts of the Committee Members and Station Reps. Their commitment and hard work, often behind the scenes, has been commendable. They deserve our utmost appreciation.
