East Anglian Wednesday League Chairman's Report 2004/05

EAWL/CHAIR/1

5 Mar 05

EAST ANGLIAN WEDNESDAY LEAGUE CHAIRMAN’S REPORT 2004/5

1. This is my second report as Chairman and comes at the end of yet another successful year for the League.

2. A full programme of matches has been fished, both winter and summer, and they have been well attended. The Match Secretary will expand on this in his report. The League continues to be financially sound, as the Treasurer will testify in his report. Matches are well run and the administration of the League is sound.

3. None of this would be possible without the continued dedication and work of all those involved. The Executive Committee remains strong despite a change at its head. The Executive Committee is supported by serving Unit Reps, whose contribution is equally as valued and important.

4. The League is highly competitive with a large proportion RAF, ex-RAF and Near RAF Anglers. Due to a few postings and job changes the strength of the anglers in the league is slowly starting to devolve from Brampton/Wyton, something which in the long-term will open up the league to other units. Whilst the same highly professional anglers dominate the league it gives the chance for us less experienced anglers to build upon our own skills by learning new ones from them. The strength of the League is shown in the current RAF squad where we are once again well represented. At the Inter League Championships this year whilst not victorious we came a creditable second only beaten by local knowledge.

5. To summarise, the League continues to flourish with a full programme of matches throughout the year. Matches are generally well attended, well run and highly competitive. The administration, organisation and funding of the league remains sound. This is almost entirely due to the efforts of the Committee Members and Station Reps, whose commitment and work, often behind the scenes, has continued to be of the highest order. They deserve our deepest appreciation.
