INTER-UNIT CHAMPIONSHIPS - 3 Oct 05

2005 ROYAL AIR FORCE COMPETITIVE ANGLING ASSOCIATION INTER-UNIT CHAMPIONSHIPS 1st Oct 2005
GRAND UNION CANAL AYLESBURY ARM MARSWORTH TO ASTON CLINTON

On a chilly and overcast day the RAFCAA held their annual Inter-Unit championships on the Tring controlled waters. With our service commitments obviously taking priority we managed a creditable turn out of 123 anglers for the RAFCAA’S premier event which saw most anglers catching small fish and the odd bonus bream or skimmer from the off. This was not to be an easy day though and come the end of the match there was a high proportion of anglers not breaking the pound mark. The Wilstone Section and its resident carp dominated producing the top three weights in the match overall.

Having noticed carp cruising in his swim early on G Hudson set his stall out for them, fishing caster and worm across and was rewarded with a 16lb 9oz specimen, and together with a few gudgeon weighed a total of 16lb 13oz for first place. Coming a close second was John Belcher fishing the end peg and using similar tactics he weighed in with 16lb 11oz. Third was Gordon Bell again using similar tactics saw him landing a 8lb carp and together with a good net of small squatt fish weighed in with 12lb 02oz.

On the team front RAF Wyton “B” took the overall title with 16 points seeing off RAF Lyneham 5 points behind and RAF Wyton “A” a further 6 points adrift. Photographs of the winner and winning teams are in the gallery
