PTC Coarse Angling Championships - 16 May 06 | |
13 teams from the various Units in the Personnel and Training Command, ventured to Maver Larford fishery near Stourport on Severn for their annual PTC angling championships on Tuesday the 16 May 06. A good breakfast was heartily devoured, to build up the strength for what was hoped and anticipated to be a good days fishing. All 39 anglers headed off to their pegs on the “Shallow Bank and Arena Pool ” We weren’t disappointed either; some very good weights were recorded with a few bonus fish being caught to relieve the normal 1lb pasty F1s boredom. The main methods seemed to be “the Method” with maggot/corn on the hook or pole and pellet up in the water, how you can fish up in the water when it’s only 2 inches deep! I don’t know. John Summerson dominated the first section on the match lake taking 1lb fish on the method feeder, finishing 15lb clear of Graham Welton who started well on the feeder with a switch to the pole that kept bites coming. Dusty Kiddel, Ritchie Tomala and Spike Milligan battled it out on the other section on the main lake, taking fish mainly on the method feeder fishing close to the Island. Craig Shaw had a 5-kilo cushion on the Arena pool from Ian Craft who both fished the short pole and pellet. As usual there was the normal barracking and banter being voiced up and down the lake usually directed at Al and Billy for the extremely tight pegging! At least people were close, who said angling is a solitary sport? Who said it was a sport? More importantly could the coveted prize be prized from the Wyton Mafia? The weigh in was a tense affair, as no one could decide whether to weigh in pounds and ounces or kilos, needless to say one section was weighed in Kg’s with the other two being done in old money, which lake were you on Billy (the organiser) Woodcock. On to the team results: Individually Spike Milligan (RAF Wyton B) took the top spot with 80lb 5oz, second went to Dusty Kiddell (RAF Wyton A) with 78lb 6oz, third was Ritch Tommala (RAF Lynton on Ouse) 76lb 7oz and fourth was John Summerson (RAF Digby A) 69lb 3oz A big thank you goes out to Maver Larford, especially Mr Phil Briscoe MD of Maver for a brilliant days fishing, giving out the prizes and use of the excellent venue, and finally the last mention must go to Al Dyer and Billy Woodcock for the organising the event.
