On 19 Jul 06, Wg Cdr Andy Johnstone - RAF Team Captain and Welsh International - caught 310lb 12oz of carp in an open match at Rolfs Lake, Oxfordshire. He is confident that this is a record 5 hour match weight by a RAF angler

Welsh International and RAF Team Captain Andy Johnstone found himself on unlucky peg 13 in the mid-week Open at Rolfs Lake, Waterperry, Oxford - although the peg is anything but unlucky! Andy fed a shallow line at 14.5m with banana flavour 6mm Freedom Feeds Pellet (soft) and fished there immediately with good response at 2ft deep. Andy enjoyed a good run of fish resulting in an eventual smashed rig which was the driving factor behind Andy switching to a another rig set at 18 inches deep - this was to allow him to make a new 2ft deep rig. As luck would have it, as soon as he shipped the rig out the elastic buried into the depths of his peg and his match was set! When the 5 hours was up, Andy eventually returned 48 carp for 310lb 12oz, a new PB. Not content, he reported a slow last hour and too many 4-5lb fish!!

One of the nicest guys you'll meet on the Open Match scene, other than myself (Lloyd Rush) that is! Andy set a new PB today with a fine 310lb 12oz from Peg 13. Rolf reported he also set a new land speed record for a 10lb Carp as he 'thundered' across to the weigh scales in an attempt to save extra time.. (all fish over 8lb are weighed individually). Unusually, Andy only had 5 weighers totalling 54lb 8 oz (although I bet he wished all his fish had been 10lb plus).
