RAFCAA Team Manager's Update - Feb 2006 |
RAFCAA (COARSE) TEAM MANAGER’S UPDATE TO THE RAFCAA (COARSE) ANGLING SUB- COMMITTEE. REPORT PERIOD 2 OCT 05 – 10 FEB 06 Following a fairly successful summer, the RAF Squad finished the year on a high with several credible performances in major competitions. The 2006 Squad was selected in Nov with 2 new members joining and 2 previous members returning taking the total to 23. Squad Selection To ensure the continued success of the RAF Squad, emphasis should be
placed on League Chairmen to actively encourage their league members,
particularly their younger anglers to submit their results to the RAF
Squad Selection Committee for consideration. Eastern Region Shied – 1 Oct 05. A Team of 8 anglers fished the NFA event at Milton Keynes Lakes. Despite the NFA only announcing the venues to be used a week before, the team took advantage of an end peg draw to finish in a very respectable 2nd place out of 20. Individual achievements were a section win by Sgt Steve Hutter with 3kg and a section 3rd by Sgt Graham Welton who found the Bream on the tip to weigh in 8kg. 5 Services – 6 Oct 05. A Team of 8 anglers travelled to Heronbrook fisheries in Slindon. For the second time in the season, the Army beat the Squad to the post. However, this time it was expected as the Army had hosted 4 major events on the venue in the 2 months prior to the event. The Squad finished a respectable 2nd with section wins going to Flt Lt Richie Tomala and Cpl Steve Perham Jeffries Cup - 2 Nov 05. RAF vs. Old Lags - 9 Nov 05. Most of the 2005 Squad turned out for this end of season match on the Wensom in Norwich. Sport was excellent with the RAF coming out on top by a considerable margin. Individual honours went to Sgt Craig Shaw. Future Events Overseas Challenge - Apr 06. Planning is complete for the 2006 event-taking place in Holland between 21-28 Apr 06. The Chairman and Team Manager will travel to the event early to scout for alternative venues that may be possibly used in the future. Several problems have arisen during the planning stage including Venue selection and the Royal Navy withdrawing from the event at a late stage due to insufficient manpower. The RAF will send a 3rd team to replace the Royal Navy Eurochallenge 2006. The Team Manager has just received information to suggest the Championships will be held in Holland in Late Nov. More Details TBC. Sponsorship Following their dismissal from the Overseas Challenge, Trabucco have remained our sponsor with a healthy working relationship currently in place. We have still had no further contact from Browning/Zebco despite initial contacts looking positive.
