VOYL 1 - The Oaks, Sessay (Maple Lake) 12 Apr 05 The first of the Vale of York Summer League matches was hopefully going to get off to a sunny start, with the 8 anglers taking part. After a dry and warm night we arrived at The Oaks hoping for a good days fishing, but were greeted by quite a strong SW wind with sunny intervals. The temperature was a breezy 14°C. The Oaks is a five lake complex and is a very popular match venue on the northern match circuit. Maple Lake contains Carp, Tench. Barbel, Skimmers, Roach and Orfe. which make up the match weights on this pole-dominated lake. Most of the field opted for the long pole fished to the far bank cover, using the maggot, pellet or corn approach. Cpl Tex Sutton and Mr Phil Young started off well, catching steadily through the match, even though there was a lull in sport at the half way point. Tex was catching at a faster rate which showed at the weigh in, ending up with 19 lb 4oz > Full Results VOYL 2 - Tollerton Lakes, nr York, 26 Apr 05 The second of the Vale of York Summer League matches started off slightly overcast with sunny intervals, with only five anglers taking part. A good days fishing was on the cards with temperatures around 13°C. Tollerton Lakes is a 100 year old spring fed fishery consisting of three small lakes. Two of the lakes are stocked with Carp, Tench, Bream, Roach, Rudd, Chub, Perch. Ide and Crucians. The lake we fished was stocked with Carp and is another pole-dominated venue. Mr Phil Young started catching from the off and for the rest of the day, with three anglers contesting second. Phil was the clear winner amassing 27lb 3oz > Full Results VOYL 3 - Broken Brea, Brompton-on-Swale, 26 Apr 05 The third of the Vale of York Summer League matches rained from the off, with very few sunny breaks and a light wind. It was very mild though, with temperatures around 14°C. Six anglers fished through the rain. Broken Brea Fishery is located about 1 mile west of Brornpton-on-Swale. It is a 4 acre mixed fishery containing Carp, Tench, Bream. Roach. Rudd and Perch. There is also a Carp and Trout lake. From the ‘all in’ two of the anglers were off to a flier, catching steadily throughout the match, using pole and pellet sweetcorn at 6 metres. Mr Phil Young took the honors again, ending with 21 lb 8oz > Full Results VOYL 4 - Parklands Fishery - Northallerton, 14 Jun 05 The fourth of the Vale of York Summer League matches started off very overcast. By the time the all in was called it had started to rain, with strong winds. Temperature for the day was a mild 14°C. Six anglers fished through the rain and strong winds. Parklands is a well established mixed fishery consisting of two lakes, which are inter-connected at one end. We fished the smaller of the two lakes which contains Carp, Tench, Bream, Roach, Chubb and small Barbel. It was a slow start with only small silver fish being caught on maggot. Cpl Eslick made a decisive change after an hour of the match, by feeding chopped worm & castor against a reed bed at 11 ½ metres. From then on in Cpl Eslick caught steadily, weighing in 9lb 4oz > Full Results VOYL 5 - Catterick Lakes, Catterick Village, 12 Jul 05 The fifth of the Vale of York Summer League matches started off a little misty, but burnt off by the "all in'. The days leading up to the match were very hot, so we were thinking the fish should be in the margins. The temp, for the day was around 28°C. A good turnout today with 9 anglers. Catterick Lakes consists of several lakes containing Carp, Tench. Chub. Roach. Perch and Bream. We fished Kendall Lake which contains mostly Carp, Roach. Perch. Tench and Chub. The match started off slowly with no carp being caught for the first four hours, but Jnr Tech Chris Clitheroe had a lot of silver fish for 51b 15oz. The sun went in and a light breeze developed in the last hour, when the carp decided to feed. Cpl Gaz Millman had the best of the carp, fishing 13 metres to a overhanging tree for I2 lb loz > Full Results VOYL 6 - Claypitts nr Patrick Brompton, 19 Jul 05 The sixth of the Vale of York Summer League matches started off overcast with a slight breeze, which developed into a strong wind later in the match. A decent turnout again with 9 anglers present. The temp, for the day was 18°C. Claypitts is a Snape A.C. owned water situated on Elmfield Country House farmland just outside Patrick Brompton. The lake contains a large variety of fish including Roach, Chub, Carp, Perch, Crucians, Tench and Bream. Claypitts is an oval shaped lake with a tail and has three islands. It is only six metres wide but is 6 ft deep. Sport started off very slowly with only small Roach and Perch being caught. After the first hour John Brierley had a few Crucians and a Skimmer, with Pete Eslick taking a few better Roach. In the last hour Pete Eslick had a small Tench, with Rick Elsworth taking what was thought to be a match winning Carp, at just over 5 lb, with just 25 min’s of the match to go. Pete Eslick just took it with 51b 15oz > Full Results VOYL 7 - Carpvale, Moor Monkton nr York, 2 Aug 05 The seventh of the Vale of York Summer League matches started off very sunny and stayed with us for the rest of the day- It was another good turnout with 9 anglers attending. Temp’ for the day was 19°C. Carpvale consists of 3 well stocked lakes. We fished the Front lake which is a 2 acre lake with 2 islands in the middle, which contains mainly Carp, Tench and Bream. Fish were caught from the off with Chris and Kirk contesting the lead. Chris landed a sizeable carp with 1 minute to go to secure the win > Full Results VOYL 8 - Willows Lakes, nr York, 16 Aug 05 The eighth of the Vale of York Summer League matches started off very hazy and with sunny intervals, but was very warm and bright in the afternoon. It was the best turnout this year with 11 anglers in attendance. Temp, for the day was 21°C. Willows Lakes consists of 2 well stocked lakes containing Carp, Ide, Tench and Bream. We fished Goldrush Lake on the Garden Pegs and we were all hoping for a good days sport After plumbing around we were all surprised to find that we only had 2-3 feet of water in front of us. With it being so shallow the fish, when hooked, charge left or right making playing the fish quite interesting. The bait we used was Catrneat, Meat, Maggots, Bread and Floating Dog Biscuits. One or two fish were caught with catmeat and maggots at the start, but Richie started fishing swallow with meat for good size carp, ending with 47 lb 14oz > Full Results VOYL 9 - Topclife Fishery, Thirsk, 20 Sep 05 This match turned out to be a keep it “tight and tidy” with the feed, with the winner only introducing small offerings of groundbait and loose-feed into the swim. Small hooks and low diameter lines proved to be the winning combination. The fish were only taking small baits presented on light rigs, fishing tight to features > Full Results VOYL 10 - Shields Pond, Crakehall, 18 Oct 05 The final match of the summer season ended with some excellent weights being produced. ChfTech Gary Lavis managed to keep the crucian carp feeding on the short pole line and by using the feeder rod, managed to temp two larger mirror carp, onto an offering of luncheon meat. Both Cpl Moss and Mr Phil Young used pellet and groundbait to good effect, providing the only real challenge > Full Results |
