WMAL 2004/05 Match Reports

WMAL 1 – Spring Lea

A new season bought no change in the norm, as this match was once again fished in the very worst of conditions. Using a 2gram rig and maggot over pellet, Mike Ellis started the season in good form with top weigh. Forced to use a feeder because of the wind, Dave Lees was second in his last match before a four-month holiday down south.
Team honours on the day went to Sealand A team. > Full Results

WMAL 2 – Milton Green

The match pool fished a little below par for this match with some anglers struggling on this normally prolific venue. Way out in front was Nige Clark who abandoned the normal far bank tactics when he realised that all was not right. He then concentrated fishing small cubes of meat down the edge for a commanding victory. > Full Results

WMAL 3 – Newport Canal 14 Jun 05

A new venue to the league gave everyone competing a fresh challenge. Local knowledge was of big fish dominating and most set out their stalls for Tench and Carp. For most of the match only small Rudd and skimmers fed and things were quite tight until the last hour when the bigger fish started to show. Making the most of this was Mark Husband who included 3 sizable Carp in his winning net. > Full Results

WMAL 5– Cudmore Lake 3, 26 Jul 05

Despite good conditions, the ‘in-form’ new pool 3 was decidedly off colour for this latest clash. Dave Pennington took advantage of one of the corner pegs for a runaway victory. Fishing method feeder he caught carp to 3 lb, easily beating the rest who all stuck to pole tactics. > Full Results

WMAL 6 – Heronbrook Bridge Pool, 9 Aug 05

It was a case of carp v chub on another excellent match at this venue. The top two both caught carp, Nige Clark catching on meat and equal on weight, Mal Whiteside using mostly corn on the hook. The next two both caught large numbers of small chub on ‘traditional’ baits. Owing to a scales cock-up, we used the fishery scales on the day, weights being rounded up to the nearest half pound. > Full Results

WMAL 7– Cudmore Arena, 13 Sep 05

The carp in this normally prolific venue were noticeable by their absence for this fixture. When conditions get tough you can normally rely on Nige Clark to deliver, and he duly obliged taking a net of mostly barbel on meat enjoying a hectic last hour. Ounces behind in second was myself, however my good hour only started 30 mins from the end! Team honours went to Sealand A and with Cosford crashing to 4th; the league is now ultra tight. > Full Results

WMAL 8– Milton Green, 11 Oct 05

Extremely low water conditions meant that corner and end pegs apart, Milton was a struggle for most at the latest league fixture. Making the most of bonus peg 5 was Gary Blair who caught a stady stream of carp from both across and by his feet. All Gary’s fish came to worm. Continuing the Cosford domination was Tony Green a little way behind in second aiding his team to an easy victory. > Full Results
