  2006 WMAL 1 - Long Lane, Telford, 23 Mar 06

The first match of the new season only saw 7 anglers manage to bluff their way off work. This new venue to the league produced erratic results (probably due to the overnight cold spell and frost) and all the fish seemed to be located in the reeds down at the narrow part of the lake, as can be seen from the results this only benefited 2 people. Ian 'lucky draw' Jones won the match with an impressive 44lb 8oz of carp from peg 4, all were taken on a single grain of corn fished tight across into the reeds at 14.5m. In second place from peg 17 (opposite Ian) was Brian 'I need a new rig' Crofts with a netful of carp weighing in at 30lb 1oz, these were also taken from tight in on the reeds with corn proving popular once again. The rest of the guys struggled and only managed a few silvers and the odd small carp, the best of the rest was Bob 'where's my top kit' Sachs with 6lb 9oz taken on the feeder fished to the island. The unluckiest were Mal and Bob from Sealand who both drew the unfavoured pegs at the back of the island but still enjoyed the breakfast and the luxury of a plush MPV instead of the usual white minibus.
At the end of the day all agreed the venue should be fished again but in the summer when the fish have warmed up a bit.
